Abstract Calculating of end structure losses in huge hydro-generator is the precondition of calculating its thermal rise accurately, and it is the key to researching the operation safety of generator. This paper discusses the eddy current losses in stator end structures and its influence factors in detail. Taking a 1 000MW fully air-cooled hydro-generator end as an example, the 3D field-circuit-motion coupled time-stepping finite element model is built. The distributions of eddy current losses in the end structures under three operation conditions are given. On this basis, the effect of the end structure parameters on the eddy current losses is analyzed. The research results provide theory references for design and optimization of the huge hydro-generator end structures.
