Abstract HVDC converter Transformer valve side faults have the diversity and space-time discrete and the fault locates at the high bridge or the low bridge will leads different valve condition. The fault phase measuring current will be different if the location of CT to fault is different and also the fault character will change as the fault time changed. Combined with the simulation of CIGRE model, this paper overcomes an analysis of single case limitation and analyses 4 typical grounding faults at the HVDC converter Transformer valve side. Based on the study of commutation voltage and fault loop in fault condition, the way of analyzing the valve condition is found. Considering the valve commutation law, one way of fault feature stage dividing is proposed; also the transient process of converter valves is studied. Finally, combined with the protection configuration of TianGuang HVDC, all protection functions are checking, and a way of chose phase in BPP is pointed out.
