Abstract With the wide application of sensitive equipment in power system, the requirement of power customers for better power quality is rising. The voltage dip assessment is becoming an important content of power quality study. In this paper, a stochastic assessment method of voltage dip with adding a virtual bus in the fault position is proposed. The remaining voltage expression of each bus is derived after a balanced or unbalanced fault taking place in any position of the complex power grid. The areas of vulnerability are calculated under different fault types. Considering the fault zone according to the remaining voltage amplitude range and the fault distribution probability, the voltage dip times per year of each bus is calculated. The validity of the proposed voltage dip assessment method is proved in the standard IEEE-30 bus system.
