Abstract Environment concern is now the driving force for using renewable energy. The multiple-input DC/DC converters (MICs) have attracted more attention for its simpler structure and less devices and components. Based on the analysis of the configuration of single-input converter (SIC) and MIC, this paper combines of the pulsating voltage source cell and pulsating current source cell in series or in parallel to replace the single input of SIC directly. Then a family of isolated MICs with single primary winding is derived. The derived isolated MICs can power the load separately or simultaneously. The number of the devices and passive components are reduced and construction becomes simpler. The control of the MICs is flexible and the voltage stress of the devices is low. This paper explains the derive method and control methods of the MICs and its characters in detail. Finally, a double-input flyback converter with the single primary winding is taken as an example. Its operation principle and control strategy are discussed. A prototype is built to demonstrate the benefits of this topology.
