Abstract  If the transverse dimension of the coaxial structure is much less than the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave, the effects of electric field distortion in the region of abrupt change of radius can be considered as a compensation capacitance. A theoretical model based on the method of variable separation for the calculation of the compensation capacitance was derived in this paper. The effects of the radii of both the inner and outer conductors on the composition capacitance were investigated. The validation of this model was verified by a comparison with the FEM simulation. The effectiveness of an analytical formula resulted from the parallel-plate structure when used to approximate the present structure was discussed. In addition, an numerical example was provided to analyze the effect of the capacitor on the waveform characteristics of a time domain pulse.
