Abstract The large signal behavior of power electronics converter is important for system operation, such as startup and load transient. With the wide application of DC distributed power system, the system level optimization and stability analysis is still not well addressed due to the lack of effective large-signal model. This paper presents a new large-signal modeling method for DC-DC converter using the principle of energy conservation. A reduced-order large-signal model of a Buck converter is derived using gyrator based on energy conservation. This linearized model can also simulate the large-signal load transition under different conditions (such as CCM and DCM), which is suitable for system level modeling and large signal stability analysis for cascaded system. The simulation and experimental results are also presented to show the model can accurately reflect the characteristics of ports of the power module, which verifies the effectiveness of the modeling method.
