A Time-Domain Calculation Method of Travelling-Wave on Double-Circuit HVDC Transmission Line with Shared Towers

Abstract:The double-circuit transmission line with shared towers is not balanced. Thus the frequency-dependent characteristic of traveling wave propagation, refraction and reflection are the key issue of its travelling-wave calculation. A time-domain calculation method of travelling-wave on double-circuit HVDC transmission line is proposed. Based on the vector fitting method and superposition theorem, the characteristics of refraction and reflection of fault generated travelling wave at the end of DC line are equivalent to the matrix of sequential wave impedance. Meanwhile, a time-domain step response matrix is used to calculate the frequency-dependent characteristics in the propagation process of travelling wave, which would avoid the complicated time-frequency conversion. Finally the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation model of a real double-circuit HVDC transmission lines with shared towers was constructed and extensive simulation results verify the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.
