Abstract:The reliability of the drives is extremely important. In this paper, a new fault tolerant drive topology for an 8/6-pole doubly salient permanent magnet (DSPM) motor is proposed. Based on co-simulation of magnetic and electrical circuit solvers, operation characteristics of the proposed topology under various conditions are simulated. Finally, the proposed topology is validated by experiments. Both simulation and experimental results show that the proposed topology can enhance the electromagnetic performance of faulty operation, and lay a foundation for the further research on fault tolerant strategy.
