Abstract:The conventional perturbation and observation(P&O) method is widely used in the photovoltaic array maximum power point tracking system due to its succinctness and high tracking efficiency. However, the excellent dynamic response and stable performance of the P&O algorithm is difficult to achieve synchronously due to adopting fixed perturbation step size. An improved P&O algorithm with constant-voltage-start and variable step size is proposed in this paper. The contrastive experimental results of the improved and conventional algorithm are presented to demonstrate its effectiveness.
