Research on the Time Delay Characteristics of the Six-gap Rod Electrode Laser Triggered Vacuum Switch

Abstract:This paper briefly introduces the basic structure and working mechanism of the laser triggered vacuum switch (LTVS).Then the processes of the primary plasma production and expansion are analyzed.A series of experiments have been carried out under different gap voltages, laser wavelengths, laser energies, polarity configuration modes, and switch structures.The capability of switching on heavy currents is increased by improving the switch structure, and the gap voltage is enhanced by increase of the gap distance.It is beneficial to reducing the dependence of the laser energy and the time delay of the switch by designing the unique trigger structure.
