Abstract:Leakage magnetic field, stray loss calculation and local overheating introduce great challenge for the power transformers, however, which need to be analyzed. In this paper, a 3D nonlinear finite element method is adopted to calculate and analyze the leakage magnetic field and stray loss of an actual power transformer. The stray loss and loss density distribution in tank wall and yoke clamps are calculated by MagNet FEM software. In order to overcome local overheating problem caused by excessive stray loss and loss density, magnetic shields are taken to the transformer and the effect of magnetic shields to the stray loss, loss density and leakage magnetic field of transformer are analyzed. The validity and effectiveness of the analysis is verified by calculation of the actual transformer and TEAM Problem 21 family. The results shows that the calculated value closely match the measured value, whose error is just less than 2%; with magnetic shields, the stray losses of transformer tank and yoke clamp decrease 38% and 48.9%.
