Abstract:A novel two-step location and acceleration method of sensorless brushless DC motor (BLDCM) utilizing short voltage pulse is proposed in this paper. Using the six short voltage pulse detection method based on the saturation effect of the stator iron, the rotor can be located and accelerated. A lower back-electromotive force (EMF) can be established. Two effective short voltage pulses are selected to locate by comparing the affection of back-EMF on detection pulses at low speed. Thus location time is reduced and location accuracy is improved. The speed is also rapidly increased. The last six commutation time of acceleration stage is corrected and used as the first commutation time after switching. So the motor is switched to back-EMF running smoothly. The validity of the suggested method is verified by experiment.
