Abstract:This paper investigates the controllability of DC-DC converters driving the constant current load. The constant current load is modeled as a constant current sink, thus the converter is described as a dual-input switched linear system. The controllability is studied by ① directly applying the criteria of switched linear systems. ② analyzing the equivalent single-input system with the unique controllable state set as the original system. It is proved that the DC-DC converters driving a constant current load are controllable in both continuous and discontinuous conduction mode; moreover, the controllability can be realized in one switching period. The conclusions are validated by circuit experiments utilizing a Boost-LED driver, in which the LED current and output voltage could be regulated at designed values under supply/load step perturbations.
