Abstract:In this paper, the multi-pulse converter based on high-frequency-operated transformers which demonstrated considerable reduction in size and weight of the multi-pulse transformer, due to higher frequency operation, is modeled and mathematically analyzed. It provides theoretical investigations of the principle of the reduction in the 5th and 7th harmonic components in utility input current. The models of both power cells and 12-pulse rectifier connected in series are defined using the switching function framework. As a conclusion, the utility input current is a function of Io and has the same formulation as conventional 12-pulse converters. Experimental results present and are consistent well with theoretical analytical results. The proposed converter is suitable for high-voltage converter systems, which demand clean input current. And the proposed converter employs modularity in design, which offers several benefits, such as reduction in cost and flexibility in design.
