The Effect of Regulated Sampling on Phase Delay of Phase-Shift SPWM Output |

Abstract Phase-shift sinusoidal pulse width modulation (PS-SPWM) has advantage on performance of real-time realization, which makes it fairly suitable for applications where output voltage need fast responsibility. This paper discusses the problem of realization of PS-SPWM when applied to high voltage-high power inverter such as static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) or distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM). Regulated sampling is the most popular realization method of PS-SPWM, which will cause phase delay between output voltage of PS-SPWM and referenced wave. The mechanism and calculating method of phase delay caused by regulated sampling is analyzed, which are verified through digital simulation and experiment on a prototype inverter. At last, a compensation method eliminating the affection of phase delay when applied to cascade multilevel STATCOM is proposed.
