Abstract With the continuous increase of photovoltaic (PV) grid-connected power, its frequency and voltage are mainly supported by the power grid, but it provides almost no rotational inertia to the grid. In order to improve the stability of PV power generation systems, the control strategy of grid-connected inverter of the PV system with storage is studied based on virtual synchronous generator (VSG). The PV power generation system and energy storage system are integrated into the grid independently. The VSG mathematical model of a grid-connected inverter is built based on the characteristics of the system. The regulations of active and reactive powers are researched, respectively, based on primary frequency modulation and primary voltage modulation. A small-signal model of the VSG is established and the influence of different virtual inertia and damping parameters on power tracking of grid-connected inverters are discussed. Finally, a simulation model is built under the Matlab/Simulink platform to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the VSG control strategy. The results show that the control strategy can introduce the inertia and damping into the power control loop, and realize the primary frequency modulation and primary voltage regulation characteristics of the synchronous generator simulated by the PV system with storage.
