Abstract The contact bounce of the electromagnetic relay, which is the main cause of electric abrasion and material erosion, is inevitable. Based on orthogonal experiments, this paper presents analyses of variance and sensitivity of the multiple factors which influence the contact bounce of aerospace relay. The results show that the maximum kinetic energy of moving contact is mainly affected by driving force and location of pushing rod, and has certain relations with the length of reed and the size of contacts; the maximum dynamic contact force is mainly affected by driving force and has a certain relation with reed materials; the maximum bouncing displacement is mainly affected by the length and thickness of reed, and has a certain relation with the size of contacts; the total bouncing time has a certain relation with the length of reed; the maximum impact speed is mainly affected by driving force, location of pushing rod and the size of contacts; coefficient of restitution is unrelated with the shaped size of spring system and the effect forms of external force, but mainly affected by the configuration of contact surface; the state of contact has a certain relation with driving force.
