Abstract A high frequency multi-winding transformer isolated multilevel converter is proposed to realize the isolation, energy balancing and the bidirectional flow of energy instead of the conventional input transformer in high-voltage high-power cases. The DC buses of cascaded H-bridge rectifier and cascaded inverter are connected to the isolated units using a high-frequency multi-winding transformer. The different powers of loads can be easily balanced by the energy delivery within different windings by the flux of the transformer. This paper gives the topology of high frequency multi-winding transformer isolated multilevel converter. Then the control strategy of cascaded H-bridge rectifier and the high frequency isolated units is put forward. Experimental results show the correctness of the topology and its control strategy.
