Abstract LCL circuit is analyzed in detail and a novel design principle about LCL is presented. Besides the filter function, the LCL circuit may work in voltage/current mode. Voltage/current mode is referenced that the output voltage/current of LCL circuit depends on the input voltage only and the change of loads has no effect on the output voltage/current when the frequency of the input voltage is the fundamental. In addition, the mode of the LCL is free to change during the operation. Therefore, the overload may be prevented with the LCL, worked at either voltage mode or current mode. Furthermore, the load short-circuit current may be controlled with LCL so that the impact on the inverter system with the short-circuit current may be minimized. In control system, the amplitude and phase of the output voltage (or current) fundamental component is also extracted in order to develop the control voltage. The design principle and the control method are verified by simulation results. And the design principle is verified by experiment results.
