Abstract In order to improve the static and dynamic performance of the three-phase voltage source inverter, the exact linearization design approach is proposed to apply to inverter control. First, the affine nonlinear mathematical model is established with the switching function and average switch period operator. Then, according to nonlinear differential geometry theory, the model is proved in theory to meet conditions for exact linearization for the multiple input, multiple output system. The nonlinear state feedback control laws are deduced. For the linear system of nonlinear coordinate transformation, quadratic optimal control strategy is used. To improve the speed of the closed-loop system and make the system state variables converge to the desired value as soon as possible after the disturbance, the first integration variable function of the quadratic performance index is constructed. The parameters of weight matrix are deduced. The optimal control of the original system design is achieved with inverse transformation. Finally, the correctness of the control method is validated by simulations and experiments.
