Abstract Due to the non-detection zone and devastating islanding detection existing in many methods of microgrid islanding detection, a novel method based on negative-sequence power positive feedback is proposed. The circuit of negative-sequence power positive feedback is added in the original grid-tied control system. And the islanding is detected by the gain of the negative sequence power. The method is able to detect islanding rapidly and accurately under most severe conditions defined by IEEE Std. 1547 and is characterized by its non-devastation and no non-detection zone. Furthermore, the method is capable of detecting islanding under conditions of one-phase or two-phase tripping. And the false islanding tripping can be avoided.
