Abstract The traditional unified power flow controller(UPFC) is well known of its flexible controlling ability, but is cannot be widely used in the power system for its disadvantage of high cost and low capacity. Sen Transformer has the advantages of high capacity and low cost, but its flexibility and action speed cannot content the requirement of accurate regulation. The hybrid power flow controller(HPFC)is constituted by traditional UPFC and “Sen Transformer”(S.T.)in series and it has the advantages of high capacity and low cost. This paper firstly introduces the basic theory of HPFC, and then realizes the function of voltage and power control through the simulation of Matlab/Simulink, and at last realizes the control of voltage amplitude and phase, which does the research of HPFC from three aspects of theory, simulation and experiment.
