Abstract:Based on special application for electronic ballast applied to metal halide (MH) lamps, a new topology for electronic ballast is proposed, which integrates two power stages of DC/DC and DC/AC to a novel single stage of DC/AC inverter for MH lamps. The principle and controlling strategy for new circuit are put forward; the principle of soft switching is developed; and the designing formulas of the resonance elements parameter are provided. Simulation results of new circuit show that it has good performance and its efficiency is about 95%. A prototype of output power 200W has been made up and the experimental results are agreed with the theoretic results and the simulation results and also show that the new circuit has many merits such as lower cost, low EMI, high efficiency and so on.
