Abstract:For inter-area low-frequency oscillation (IALFO) in power system, a novel design strategy for power system damping controller employing time-delay wide-area measurements is proposed based on wide-area measurement system (WAMS) and flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) technology. Combining theories of delay-dependent state-feedback robust control and state observer, time-delay output feedback robust control is realized for wide-area power system. Take four-machine two-area power system as an example, an additive damping controller (ADC) for thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) is designed. Small signal analysis and time-domain simulation demonstrate that this controller can inhibit IALFO evidently. Meanwhile, it is insensitive to time delay and robust to operating conditions.
