Abstract：The nonlinear load connected into electric grid may cause the presence of higher harmonics of magnetic field in the transform cores and motor cores, which can make the vibration and noise of iron cores more serious. Owing to the lack of basic knowledge about the effect of harmonic magnetic field on magnetostrictive property for the silicon steel sheet at present, this paper measured magnetostrictive waveforms of non-oriented grain electrical steel sheet by means of controlling the magnitude and phase of the third harmonic of magnetic field in a magnetostriction tester with an accuracy of 10nm/m. Also, the effects of the increase of harmonic magnetic field on the fourth and sixth harmonic of magnetostriction were discussed. Further, the decibel value of noise caused by the magnetostriction of electrical steel sheet under harmonic magnetic field was calculated by A-weighted velocity level and the relations between harmonic magnetic field and magnetostriction and the corresponding noise were described by two-dimensional surfaces. Finally, an indirect magnetoelastic coupling method was proposed and applied to simulate the magnetostrictive strain and its noise in iron cores for a permanent magnet synchronous machine. Measured data and simulation results in this paper can provide a reference for analyzing the vibration and noise caused by the magnetostriction of iron cores more accurately.
