Abstract:A hybrid axial field flux-switching permanent magnet(HAFFSPM) machine is proposed, and the topology and operating principle are analyzed based on a 12/11 stator/rotor pole HAFFSPM machine. Based on 3-D finite element method(FEM), the static characteristics are investigated, including the no-load magnetic field distribution, air-gap flux density, open-circuit flux linkage, back EMF, cogging torque and winding inductance, etc. The air-gap flux distribution and field control ability at the different exciting currents are analyzed. It shows that the flux-linkage and back-EMF waveforms are bipolar and sinusoidal which makes the machine appropriate for brushless AC application. A good field control capability is obtained with varying the exciting current.
