Brushless Doubly-Fed Machines with Magnetic Barrier Rotor

Abstract:In order to investigate the influence of magnetic barriers in rotor core on the performance of brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM), the comparative studies of the influences of pole-arc coefficient, numbers and structure parameters of magnetic barriers on the performance of BDFM based on the field-circuit coupled finite element analysis are carried out in this paper. On the basis of the comparative studies, a magnetic barrier rotor structure of BDFM with simple structure and good performance is proposed. The experimental results of the prototype machine validated the design method and predicted doubly-fed operation performance of the BDFM with magnetic barrier rotor. The theoretical analysis and experimental study show that under the same condition of structure dimension, the performance of BDFM with reluctance rotor can be effectively improved by adding magnetic barriers properly in the rotor core, and the machine can keep the same advantages of simple structure and low cost as that of the normal reluctance rotor.
