Abstract:In order to avoid the shoot-through problem, dead-time is needed in the traditional bridge converter. A novel control method called half cycle hysteresis current control is proposed in this paper for the single phase diode-clamped three-level half bridge inverter (DCTLHBI), which is popular in multilevel inverters. This method tries to eliminate the dead-time in the whole cycle by controlling the upper and lower bridge-arm switches respectively in the positive and negative cycle of output current, while retaining all of the advantages of DCTLHBI. So the quality of the output waveform is improved. Especially, hysteresis current control with double bands is chosen to obtain PWM waveform for the stability and dynamic response of the system. The operation of DCTLHBI with half cycle hysteresis current control and the realization of no dead-time strategy are described, together with simulation and experimental results.
